Getting Around in Nigeria
Once you’ve landed in Abuja, getting around the city is fairly easy and convenient!
Rideshare Apps
Uber and Bolt both operate reliably in Abuja and are the most convenient way to get around the city.
These apps work just like they do elsewhere - simply request a ride from your phone and you’re good to go!
It’s a good idea to keep some Naira on hand for small purchases, tips, or cash-only rides.
Hired Security & Transportation Assistance
For guests who would feel more comfortable with additional support, hired security escorts and vetted private drivers can be arranged. If you’d like help coordinating private transportation or are interested in security services during your stay, please don’t hesitate to reach out to atpeacewithobi@gmail.com. We’re happy to provide recommendations or connect you with a trusted local provider.
Safety Tips
Always confirm your driver and vehicle details before getting in. Avoid hailing taxis from the street at night - stick to rideshare apps or hotel-arranged transportation.

Money & Currency in Nigeria
Here’s everything you need to know about spending while in Abuja!
Currency
Nigeria’s official currency is the Naira (₦).
While some major hotels, restaurants, and shops accept U.S. credit or debit cards, it's best to pay in Naira where possible for convenience and better rates.
Using Credit Cards
Visa and Mastercard are widely accepted at larger businesses and hotels.
Always inform your bank of international travel before your trip to avoid any card issues.
Exchanging Cash
You can exchange USD for Naira at most local banks or at authorized currency exchange centers.
Rates may vary, so it’s helpful to check before you exchange.

Phones, SIM Cards & Staying Connected
Whether you're sharing wedding moments, navigating Abuja, or keeping in touch, staying connected is essential and doable!
International Roaming
Some U.S. carriers (like T-Mobile, AT&T, and Verizon) offer international roaming plans that include calling, texting, and data usage in Nigeria.
Check with your provider before departure to confirm coverage and any associated fees.
Local SIM Cards & eSIMs
Purchasing a local SIM card (from providers like MTN, Airtel, or Glo) upon arrival can offer affordable data and local call rates.
Many providers also offer eSIM options, allowing you to download a SIM profile directly to your phone without needing a physical card.
Ensure your phone is unlocked before travel to use a local SIM or eSIM.
MiFi Devices (Portable Wi-Fi)
MiFi devices offer portable Wi-Fi and are a great option for guests who want to stay connected on multiple devices while in Abuja.
To purchase a MiFi device in Nigeria, a National Identification Number (NIN) is typically required.
If you’d prefer not to handle this on your own, we’re happy to assist with renting or arranging a MiFi for your stay—just reach out and we’ll guide you through it!
Tips for Staying Connected
1. Unlock your phone before traveling to use local SIMs or eSIMs.
2. Purchase SIM cards from official stores or authorized dealers to ensure proper registration.
3. Use Wi-Fi in hotels, cafes, and restaurants to conserve data.
4. Download essential apps (like WhatsApp, Google Maps, or ride-hailing apps) before your trip.
